Recently, Germany-Azerbaijan relations have been experiencing period of rapid development - President Ilham Aliyev

Lately, my visits to Germany have had a regular character. I can say that in recent times, the relations between Germany and Azerbaijan have been experiencing a period of rapid development, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said in a joint press conference with Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz in Berlin, Trend reports.

The head of state recalled previous meetings with the Chancellor in Berlin last March and two months earlier in Munich, saying: “The bilateral agenda is sufficiently broad. The development of relations between Germany and Azerbaijan is of great importance not only for our countries but also for the overall development and stability of the South Caucasus region.”

German companies keen to co-op on renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan - Olaf Scholz

German companies are willing to cooperate on renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan, said Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz during a joint press conference with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Trend reports.

“Mr. President, your visit today is primarily focused on climate policy, and Azerbaijan has assumed the presidency of COP29, meaning it will be hosting this event. Important decisions were made in Dubai during COP28. Therefore, by 2030, renewable energy generation should triple, energy efficiency should double, and methane emissions should be reduced. I would also like to note that the plan to increase the share of wind, solar, and hydroelectric power in Azerbaijan's energy sector by 30 percent by 2030 is very encouraging news. Germany is aiming for 80 percent.

I believe that there is great potential in the region for cooperation in the fields of green and hydrogen energy, and German companies are interested in cooperating with Azerbaijan, mainly, as I mentioned, in the fields of hydrogen and renewable energy. Of course, there must be appropriate framework conditions for this,” he said.

Saudi Fund for Development focused on cooperation with Azerbaijan in transportation - executive director

Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) is focused on cooperation with Azerbaijan in the sphere of transportation, SFD Executive Director of the Strategy Sector Dr. Abdullah Al-Sakran told Trend on the sidelines of the Islamic Development Bank Group (IsDB) annual meetings in Riyadh.

“Azerbaijan is now under the umbrella of the initiative that is about connection between Asia and Europe.
Azerbaijan makes linkage between Asia and Europe and we focus now on transportation sector,” he said.

As for the cooperation for development of the Middle Corridor, he said this depends on the requirements of the country.

“As per our previous discussions with the Azerbaijani government, we are focused on roads. Our priority is to engage with governments on food security, climate action, water management, digitalization. We welcome any request from the Azerbaijani government in these sectors. If the Azerbaijani government lists its priorities, we are ready to discuss,” he said.

Al-Sakran noted that the Fund provides loans to countries under the umbrella of cooperation for development.

“Roads are one of the elements of food security. So broadly, cooperation on transportation also covers food security, agriculture, reducing the time of transportation,” he explained.

The Islamic Development Bank Group (IsDB) is holding its 2024 Annual Meetings and Golden Jubilee in Riyadh from April 27-30, under the Royal Patronage of the Custodian of Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.

Azerbaijan to apply project-investment sources' handling tool for liberated lands

A system of special investment sources and additional preferential loans will be shortly introduced to support entrepreneurial projects in Azerbaijan's Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions, Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov said, Trend reports.

He made the remark in a video message during a conference on the topic "A New Period of Socio-Economic Development of Azerbaijan".

According to him, Azerbaijan's private sector has created over 385 jobs since 2019.

"Today we are faced with a more ambitious task. Contributing to the revival of territories liberated from occupation is the moral duty of each of us. We lived with a dream for today. Therefore, the active participation of our entrepreneurs in this process is important.

The socio-economic development of each country is directly related to the development of the private sector. Significant year-on-year growth in economic indicators, including in the field of entrepreneurship, is the result of the work done. This indicates that we are on the right track,” he added.

To note, following the liberation of its territories from Armenian occupation in 2020, Azerbaijan started large-scale restoration and reconstruction activities and made relevant investments.

Thus, investments in fixed assets in the development of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur economic regions totaled nearly 6.4 billion manat (3.8 billion USD) in 2023.

Hungarian FM lists Azerbaijan's non-oil priority sectors for co-op

Hungary expresses interest in expanding economic cooperation with Azerbaijan beyond the energy sector, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said during the Azerbaijan-Hungary Business Forum in Baku, Trend reports.

"Hungary boasts a thriving pharmaceutical sector, and we are keen to see esteemed companies like the globally renowned Gedeon Richter and Egis Gyogyszergyar Plc (prominent in Central Europe) and potentially Celitron Medical Technologies Ltd. venture into business opportunities in Azerbaijan, potentially within special economic zones," he said.

According to him, Azerbaijan could benefit from Hungary's expertise in water resource management, with several specialized companies within the delegation. Hungary is also prepared to undertake construction projects in Azerbaijan, particularly in the liberated regions like Karabakh and East Zangezur.

"We have consistently advocated for peace and consider the swift reintegration of these territories crucial. Additionally, our technology firms are prepared to contribute to this endeavor, particularly as the liberated lands present opportunities for implementing smart city, smart village, and green energy initiatives," the minister noted.

He also emphasized great prospects for cooperation in tourism, science, and culture.

To note, Baku hosted the 10th session of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between the governments of Azerbaijan and Hungary.

The one-on-one meeting was attended by a delegation headed by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó and a delegation headed by Azerbaijani Minister of Labor and Social Protection Sahil Babayev.
