The next meeting of AHK Azerbaijan Agriculture and Food WG   
Dear AHK Azerbaijan members and partners,

we would like to inform you that the AHK Azerbaijan Agriculture and Food Working Group held several meetings with companies operating in the relevant field in February and March of this year. We express our gratitude to all the participating companies and would like to note that we have prepared an action plan for 2024 based on the ideas, suggestions, and challenges received during the interviews.

We are pleased to inform you that the next meeting of the Agriculture and Food Working Group of AHK Azerbaijan on Thursday, 25 April 2024, from 11:30 to 13:00, will take place at the AHK Azerbaijan office (Winter Park Plaza, 7th floor, 75 Rasul Rza Street).

The meeting will delve into the crucial topics of the process of obtaining documents and certificates required for export and the pressing issue of the lack of skilled labour. We will be joined by Mr Shamo Muradov, Director of Incert LLC, who will be giving a presentation on the topic of “Obtaining the Certificates Required for Exporting Agricultural and Food Products Abroad”. Following this, Ms Jana Tichomirova, German Senior Experts Service (SES) Project Manager for Azerbaijan, will inform the participants about the main activities of the service, the assignment of German specialists and experts, and the available opportunities for companies.

Azerbaijan discusses development of relations with Georgia

Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova has met with Chairman of the Economy Committee of the Georgian Parliament David Songulashvili, Trend reports.  

The meeting discussed the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia.

Gafarova noted that the peoples of Azerbaijan and Georgia, sharing common cultural values, have lived together for centuries in friendship and good neighborliness, and relations between the countries are based on this solid foundation.

During the talk, it was mentioned that relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia have reached a level of strategic partnership and are constantly developing. The important role of high-level visits in the development of relations between the countries was noted, and it was emphasized that the dynamics of the mutual visits of the leaders show how much importance they attach to the relations between the countries.

Additionally, noting that inter-parliamentary ties are one of the important components of bilateral and multilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia, the Speaker emphasized that today very effective cooperation has been established between our legislative bodies. Mutual visits by parliamentary presidents, delegations, and friendship groups gave an important impetus to the development of this cooperation. It was noted that the committees of our legislative bodies also have a good experience with cooperation.

Besides, it was noted at the meeting that, taking into account the importance of economic issues in the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia, strengthening ties between the economic committees of the legislative bodies will further expand the cooperation both between the parliaments and state structures in a broader sense.

Having conveyed the greetings of the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili to the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Songulashvili uttered congratulations on the successful holding of the extraordinary presidential election in Azerbaijan in all sovereign territories of the country. He noted the important role of the legislative bodies in the development of relations between the two countries.

The sides criticized the double standards existing in several international organizations and stressed the need to strengthen joint activities in international organizations. The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.

Azerbaijani Public Council under Energy Ministry visits Garadagh solar power plant

On the initiative of Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry and with the support of Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), members of the Public Council under the Ministry of Energy visited the Garadagh Solar Power Plant (230 MW), Trend reports via the Ministry of Energy.  

"The council members were briefed on the operations of this contemporary power generation facility, inaugurated in October 2023. Details were shared regarding its construction, functionality, integration into the grid, green energy output metrics, and considerations related to technical, economic, environmental, and social aspects," the press release noted.

Information was provided on the process of construction, operation, and grid integration, green energy production indicators, as well as technical, economic, environmental, and social aspects," the press release noted.

To note, Masdar is the primary contractor responsible for constructing and overseeing Azerbaijan's inaugural major renewable energy source facility.

Azerbaijan, World Bank discuss cooperation within COP29

Azerbaijan and the World Bank (WB) have discussed cooperation within the framework of COP29, the chairman of CBA, Taleh Kazimov wrote on X, Trend reports.  

"Pleased to meet WorldBank Senior Managing Director Axel van Trotsenburg and WB team during the Spring Meetings. We had a productive exchange of ideas about the Bank's current activities in our country, the Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for the next period, and possible cooperation opportunities related to COP29," the publication says.

This November, Azerbaijan will host COP29. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year. Baku will become the center of the world and will receive about 70–80,000 foreign guests.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. COP - the Conference of the Parties- is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.

Azerbaijani Central Bank, Visa consider expansion of cooperation to drive payment innovation

The Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) and Visa have discussed the expansion of cooperation to promote innovations in the payment sector, the chairman of CBA, Taleh Kazimov wrote on X, Trend reports.  

"As part of our participation in the WB and IMF Spring Meetings 2024, we met with Andrew Torre, Visa's regional president for the Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa (CEMEA) region. During the meeting, we discussed the current cooperation and prospects for collaboration between the Central Bank and Visa. We also exchanged views on expanding cooperation with Visa to promote innovations in the payment sector," the publication says.

To note, Visa (NYSE: V) is a global leader in the digital payments industry. Visa processes payment transactions between consumers, businesses, and financial and government institutions in more than 200 countries and territories. Visa's mission is to unite the world through an innovative, convenient, reliable, and secure payment network to promote consumer well-being and business and economic prosperity.

Azerbaijan and Georgia discuss transport and ICT co-op

Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan Rashad Nabiyev has received a Georgian delegation led by Chairperson of the sector Economy and Economic policy committee of the Parliament of Georgia David Songulashvili, Trend reports referring to Nabiyev's social media.

 

During a meeting, the Azerbaijani minister discussed possible partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia in the areas of transportation and digital technology.

Azerbaijan and Georgia's transport cooperation is vital, particularly in the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor (TITR or Middle Corridor), and the parties cooperate on a wide range of problems.

Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Kazakhstan have formed a unified transport operator business for the TITR, which will later include Türkiye.
