 Meeting of the Financial Services WG                                            

At the next meeting of the Financial Services Working Group of AHK Azerbaijan held on March 13, 2024, at the Head Office of AccessBank CJSC, the areas of activity of the Entrepreneurship Development Fund and preferential financial mechanisms were discussed, as well as the banking services and products available for AHK Azerbaijan members within the framework of cooperation with EDF. At the meeting participated Tobias Baumann, Executive Board Member of AHK Azerbaijan, Ilkin Guliyev, Member of the Board of AccessBank CJSC and Chairman of the Financial Services Working Group, as the moderator of the meeting. Guest speakers included Osman Khaliyev, Chairman of the Management Board of the Entrepreneurship Development Fund, and Javid Aliyev, Director of small, medium, and corporate clients at AccessBank CJSC.

Edu & GreenTech Presentation and B2B-Session                          
AHK Azerbaijan, in cooperation with the Joint Support Network for Export Development from Finland, Estonia and Latvia to Azerbaijan (LEF Network Azerbaijan), coordinated a Presentation on Education & Green Tech topics followed by a B2B session.

The event took place on March 14-20, 2024, at the Courtyard by Marriot Hotel Baku. The main objective of the meetings was to facilitate the exchange of information on green technologies, education, tourism, water and wastewater sectors in Azerbaijan and to explore potential avenues for future cooperation. Participants included representatives from 23 Azerbaijani companies, as well as five companies each from Latvia, Estonia, and Finland.

The project LEF network Azerbaijan's vision is to increase innovations and the bio-economy of the region by exporting services, know-how and goods to Azerbaijan. As a result, the Central Baltic region will be more sustainable and competitive.

AHK Azerbaijan was thrilled to foster productive conversations and lay the groundwork for future partnerships between Azerbaijani companies and esteemed counterparts from Latvia, Estonia, and Finland.

President Ilham Aliyev attends XI Global Baku Forum

Organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center under the patronage of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the 11th Global Baku Forum themed “Fixing the Fractured World” has started at the Gulustan Palace in Baku, Trend reports.  

President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of the Forum. The head of state addressed the opening ceremony.

The Nizami Ganjavi International Center (NGIC) has become a leading international platform for addressing global challenges and raising awareness within the global community. As a result, interest in the events organized by the Center is increasing year by year.

The 11th Global Baku Forum, themed “Fixing the Fractured World", welcomed 350 guests from more than 70 countries.

The Forum, running until March 16, will feature global discussions on the outcomes of COP28 and preparations for COP29. It will also hold discussions on factors threatening the new world order, including security issues, prospects for ensuring peace, and building stability in a divided world. Additionally, the forum will address world-shaking conflicts and mega threats, including challenges related to climate, food, and nuclear security. Simultaneously, the forum will focus on the role of military and economic alliances in global governance, regional perspectives, relations with the European Union and its neighbors, youth policy, ways to increase resilience to global challenges, inequality, scarcity of natural resources, migration, as well as artificial intelligence, drones, and cyber weapons.

Azerbaijan, Croatia explore economic collaboration priorities

Priorities of economic collaboration between Azerbaijan and Croatia have been explored, Trend reports via a social media publication by Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov.  

According to the publication, a meeting has been held in Baku between Jabbarov and the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Croatia, Damir Habijan.

"We explored the priorities of our bilateral economic relations in terms of promotion of joint investments and trade, support for cooperation in the fields of alternative energy and industry, and enhancement of partnerships among business communities," the publication said.

Azerbaijan's SOCAR and bp review green energy transition co-work

State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and bp have discussed joint initiatives on the transition to green energy, Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov said on X, Trend reports.  

"We met with Murray Auchincloss, CEO of bp, together with SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf and our colleagues. Our conversations focused on assessing the results of our bilateral cooperation and identifying new potential for partnership. We also discussed cooperation projects in the areas of green energy transition, decarbonization, and exploration and production. bp emphasized its commitment to strengthening the existing collaboration with Azerbaijan and indicated strong interest in investing in renewable energy initiatives," the publication says.

bp CEO Murray Auchincloss is slated to pay a two-day business visit to Azerbaijan to explore the company's long-term collaboration ambitions. Auchincloss will hold multiple internal meetings during his visit, including sessions with bp management in Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye, as well as a meeting with bp's regional personnel.

In addition, he intends to call at the Sangachal Terminal.

Azerbaijan envisages smart approach to several measures for green economy development

A clever approach to several measures for the development of green economy in Azerbaijan is planned, Deputy Economy Minister of Azerbaijan Sahib Mammadov said during the "Impact of transition to the green economy on consumer behavior and consumer market: challenges and prospects" forum, Trend reports.  

According to him, the goal is to improve the trash recycling and sorting system in order to raise the volume of recycled waste by up to 20 percent by the mid-term period. In reference to the application of global "green" standards in the economy, Mammadov pointed out that the UN and other international organizations study the global development priorities, specifically the "I State Program on Great Return" and the process of reintegrating liberated lands.

"Application of smart city, smart village, and green energy zone concepts will ensure modern living conditions in the liberated territories," Mammadov emphasized.

He also pointed out that JVs with foreign investors in the field of decarbonization are being established in the country.

"The implementation of the green economy strategy in Azerbaijan will create a basis for strengthening the transformation of business into a new generation economy. As part of the measures, research to assess the state of the digital economic ecosystem is planned, an enabling environment for digitalization will be created, and a mechanism of public-private partnership in the IT sector will be applied," the deputy minister added.

Visa sees strategic partner in Azerbaijan - senior vice president

Visa sees a strategic partner in Azerbaijan, Senior Vice President and Regional Manager of Visa in Ukraine, Georgia, CIS, and Southeast Europe Cristina Doros said, Trend reports.
 

She made a remark at the 'Visa Cashless Forum – Digital Azerbaijan' held in Baku.

"Visa's worldwide goal is focused on promoting innovation, delivering smooth customer service, and digitizing payments. For Visa, Azerbaijan has been and will continue to be a crucial market and nation. Here, we have been in business since 1997. Visa has been investing in Azerbaijan and putting creative solutions into practice for all these years," she stressed.

According to Doros, Visa is able to implement new technologies in the payment space and make payments simpler, more comfortable, and safer for the people of Azerbaijan thanks to partnerships with the government of Azerbaijan, the Central Bank, and financial institutions.

To note, the Visa Cashless Forum is one of the main events of Visa, covering markets in Ukraine, Georgia, the CIS, and Southeastern Europe. It involves experts in digital payments and financial technologies.
