Business Delegation visit SPARK / IKTVA Saudi Aramco

Great response of the German Business Community to the GESALO invitation to visit Saudi Aramco

In order to support the diversification of its economy Saudi Arabia has embarked on several localization programs. For German companies conducting business in the kingdom, the In-Kingdom Total Value Add (IKTVA) program is one of the most relevant and of great importance for the companies.

Therefore, the German-Saudi Arabian Liaison Office for Economic Affairs (GESALO) highly appreciated the opportunity to follow an invitation by Saudi Aramco on the 17th of September into their headquarters to learn more about the IKTVA program as well as the King Salman Energy Park (SPARK). GESALO was able to mobilize 50 German company representatives and was visit was accompanied by the German Ambassador H.E. Jörg Ranau.

The event was based on the kind invitation of the Chairman of the Board of SPARK,
Mr. Mohammed Al-Qahtani. After a few welcoming words from Mr. Mohammad Al-Assaf,
VP of New Business Development (King Salman Energy Park), Dr. Samra-Rohte the newly assigned Delegate of the German Industry, welcomed the guests, introduced herself, and expressed her gratitude towards Saudi Aramco for hosting the German business community. H.E. Jörg Ranau followed with welcoming remarks in which he offered his gratitude to be in such a rewarding host country.

With a comparison of the different localization programs in the region, Dr. Constantin Frank-Fahle from Schlüter Graf law firm, focused on IKTVA and the importance for companies in enhancing their business relations with Saudi Aramco.
Dr. Frank-Fahle was followed by Mr. Majid Almohammed, Supervisor of the IKTVA Action Plan, who introduced the IKTVA program.
A large number of the company representatives took the opportunity to follow-up with some questions.
Mr. Mishal Al-Saab, Director of Investments and Business Development, opened the second topic of the day and gave an overall presentation of SPARK, followed by an impressive movie clip, showcasing the capabilities and progress of the Energy Industrial zone.
Spark offers an excellent set up in order to implement IKTVA for companies.

All participants took the opportunity to participate in a networking session afterwards.

German-Saudi Businesswomen reception

Saudi and German businesswomen gathered at the residence of the German Ambassador to celebrate the arrival of Dr. Dalia Samra-Rohte as the new delegate of the German Saudi Arabian Liaison office for economic affairs as well as our colleague Hanna Riehle as a representative of GTAI (Germany Trade and Invest).

Mrs. Milena Dech, Head of the Economic Section of the German Embassy, highlighted the fact that the 3 pillars of German trade (the Economic Section of the German Embassy, the German Chambers Abroad Network and Germany Trade and Invest) are now represented by women in Saudi Arabia, which is a great signal for the Saudi-German Business community.

In the welcome speech given by the 3 ladies, Mrs. Dech underlined that this was an excellent opportunity to network for the growing female business community and Dr. Samra-Rohte concluded that this would be just the start of a round of female networking events.

In the discussions during that night, the group of ladies concluded that it was important for women to build their network and to support and mentor each other in their respective careers.

This evening served as an opportunity to get to know each other beyond the professional side and included lots of shared laughter and anecdotes in a relaxed atmosphere.

The bonds created will surely help to further tighten Saudi-German collaboration.

We would like to thank H.E. Jörg Ranau, the German Ambassador and especially his wife Heike Ranau, for hosting this event on their premises.

Our Pick of the Month

Cinema: Born a King, before Saudi Arabia, there was the young Faisal

Born a King tells the extraordinary true story of 14-year-old Faisal, the younger son of the first King of Saudi Arabia, who in 1919 is sent on a diplomatic mission to England.
In the frenetic post-WWI atmosphere, Faisal becomes the first Saudi Royal to visit the UK on a politically precarious trip lasting 5 months. Faisal ultimately became the hugely popular King of Saudi Arabia (1964-1975), implementing modernization and reform.
Although the film is not a Saudi production, Vicente Gomez still wanted to work jointly with Saudis.
The producer thus chose to surround himself with a Saudi novelist in the writing of the film’s script. “I started writing the script and went to a Saudi novelist, Badr Al-Samary, who helped and guided me through the first steps of the story,” he explained.
Shot between London and Riyadh for seven weeks, it is in Prince Abdulaziz bin Fahad’s farm in Diriyah that most of the shots were taken.
The film crew was composed of 200 crew members, half of whom were Saudi.
The movie is now playing in the cinemas in the Middle East in arabic and english and will soon also be available on Netflix.
