Highlights of the month

The implementation of CPTPP: Vietnam ratified CPTPP on November 12, 2018

The free trade agreement was voted by 96.7% of the Vietnam's National Assembly. As a result, Vietnam becomes the 7th party that implements the agreement. Mexico was the first country that signed the contract, followed by Japan, Singapore, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Vietnam.

The CPTPP will probably come into force by the beginning of 2019 and affects the ratification of the free trade agreement between the EU and Vietnam positively. More here >>>

AHK World Business Outlook Index 2018 – Vietnam’s result

AHK World Business Outlook Index is viewed as a barometer of the business confidence among German companies operating in Vietnam.This survey rests on a regular DIHK-survey of business members of the German Foreign Chamber of Commerce (AHKs), Delegations and Representatives (of the AHK). It obtains worldwide feedbacks of over 3,500 German businesses, branches and subsidiaries, as well as businesses with close connections to Germany and was conducted in September and October 2018. 

Vietnam's results: The business confidence of German firms in Vietnam remains positive. In the 12 months ahead, 54 percent of German firms intend to continue investing in Vietnam and 52 percent of the firms plan to hire more employees. Further on, 44 percent of the companies still consider the economic policy framework conditions and the lack of skilled workers as greatest uncertainty factor for their businesses. More here >>>

16th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business (APK) – the leading German business event in Asia-Pacific

Jarkata: November 01 - 03, 2018: One of the highlights at APK 2018 was the meeting between German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Mr. Peter Altmaier and the CEOs of German Chambers of Commerce in ASEAN, including German Chambers in Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Peter Altmaier said that German firms can rely on the support available from Germany’s chambers of commerce worldwide and in ASEAN. He wanted to work with the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry to further strengthen the global network of AHKs and the focus will be on new markets, such as ASEAN - the potential markets for German businesses in the near future.

EuroCham Celebrates 20 years in Vietnam with a Gala Dinner and Business Awards

GBA proudly joined the EuroCham Business Awards and Gala Dinner on the evening of Nov 16th. Our members filled up two GBA tables, several company tables as well as sponsorships for this event.
The most highlighted moment was DIGI-TEXX winning the Best Entrepreneurship award, recognising the business that has been the most innovative, creative, disruptive and competitive, and overcome challenges to become successful in Vietnam. Dual Vocational Training in Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City, November 16, 2018: Vietnam Vocational Board Meeting

GIC/AHK Vietnam organized a Vietnam Vocational Board Meeting twice a year in Vietnam to create a platform for experience exchanges, launching projects and presenting the new strategies among the experts in this field. During this Vocational Board Meeting, German key players such as Bosch Vietnam, Logwin and the training center Andrej Majcen shared their experiences in the implementation process of their dual vocational training projects in Vietnam, their chances and challenges. Moreover, some brand-new dual vocational training projects in Vietnam (according to the DIHK German Standard) were presented in that vocational board meeting.

New Chairman of the Asia Pacific Council

During the 16th APK in Jakarta in this November 2018, The APA Asia Pacific Council has announce the new chairman of this organization. Marko Walde on talk with Vietnam Investment Review on CPTPP

On behalf of German Industry and Commerce Vietnam (GIC/AHK Vietnam), I think that CPTPP, as a quite comprehensive agreement, will offer Vietnam not only trade and investment opportunities, but also a chance to modernise its labour law, penal law, anti-corruption law and the intellectual property rights policy according to the international standards. In returns, it will affect also the ratification of the free trade agreement between the EU and Vietnam positively.

I strongly recommend that Vietnamese companies should hurry up to increase their competitiveness significantly in order to make the best use of incentives offered by CPTPP. More here >>>

New CEO of OAV Hamburg

Mrs. Almut Roessner, Executive Director at EuroCham Vietnam - Leading Vietnam's largest organisation representing European business interests - since 2015 is appointed to be Executive Director of OAV (German Asia-Pacific Business Association) in Hamburg from February 2019 on.

Vietnam, November 17 – 24, 2018: Saxony Delegation to Vietnam

Hanoi, November 19, 2018: The first briefing on the Vietnam market and the chances, challenges for Saxony business delegation, headed by Mr. martin Dulig,Saxony Minister for Economy. Representatives of German essential organizations in Vietnam did deliver the speeches: Mr. Berger, German Ambassador in Vietnam, Mr. Marko Walde, Chief Representative of German Industry and Commerce Vietnam and Mrs. Schmitz-Bauerdick, Chief Representative of GTAI in Vietnam. Afterwards, the delegation from Saxony had the first meeting with Mr. Hoang Quoc Vuong, Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade of Vietnam. The main topics in the discussion were machine engineering, automobile and plant manufacturing. In the afternoon, the meeting with the Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Mr. Nguyen Duc Chung took place with the focus on the potential corporation between Hanoi and Saxony state in the following fields of machinery, transport infrastructure, education and tourism in the future. Then the Saxony Delegation met Vietnam’s minister for planning and investment MPI Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung to talk on the investment and cooperation possibilities between businesses from Vietnam and from Saxony state of Germany.  

Hanoi, November 21, 2018: Saxony Delegation headed by Mr. Martin Dulig – Saxony Minister for Economy - visited the University of transport and communication. An MOU signing ceremony on opening a Saxony-Vietnamese corporation center in the fields of transport infrastructure, namely metro systems and high-speed traffic, took place during this meeting.

HCMC, November 22, 2018: Saxony Delegation met the representatives of German companies in Vietnam to exchange the experiences and establish the new contacts. All provided information and experiences will be needed for setting their own suitable and effective market entry strategies for Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh City, October 2018: GTAI Delegation to Vietnam: German Vietnamese Business Forum

The German Vietnamese Forum took place in Ho Chi Minh City, organized by Germany Trade And Invest (GTAI) with the support of GIC/AHK Vietnam. This forum was one of the activities and events that we did organize for a GTAI business delegation visiting Vietnam on purpose of understanding the market, finding suitable local partners as well as establishing valuable contacts with local and German investors to exchange experiences.
From October 22 - 26, in Hanoi and in HCMC, German companies participated in B2B matchmaking events and in German Vietnamese business forum as well as visit the local and German companies in Hanoi and HCMC.

Berlin, November 20, 2018: ASEAN parliamentary group met AHK ASEAN

The chairwoman of the ASEAN parliamentary group, Renate Kuenast and other members of the German Parliament had a meeting with AHK ASEAN executive directors (from Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Myanmar). The main topics were trade policy, relationship with China and dual vocational education according to the German standards.

Koblenz, November 13, 2018: Seminar on FTA between EU and Vietnam as well as Singapore

Bjoern Koslowski, Deputy Chief Representative of GIC/AHK Vietnam and Robin Hoenig, German Chamber of Commerce in Singapore presented the chances and challenges for German companies while doing business in these countries. After the seminar, we offered the individual consulting meetings where German companies discussed directly with the representative on the market chances and the suitable market entry strategies into the 2 ASEAN countries. 

Hamburg, November 09, 2018: Seminar “Business opportunities in the logistics sector of Vietnam”

Through specialists´ contributions from practice on-site, German companies have received all information about the expansion of industrial zones in Vietnam including the connection to the transport infrastructure. As a result, it might help to recognize the real chances for companies and understand the existing legal framework.The event is organised by the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, the German Asia-Pacific Business Association, the GIC/AHK Vietnam, the GERMELA Wülfing LLP and friendly supported by the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg.

The very first European Night networking event, led by GBA at the premium rooftop Sky XX on the 21st floor of Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City. A total of more than 160 guests attended and event and was content of the venue and good business network.

Hanoi, November 26 - 28, 2018:Photo Exhibition: Light - Dark

The exhibition Hell-Dunkel (light – dark) is a reference to the work of Barbara Klemm  in the former FRG and GDR. She photographed in both western and eastern Germany, thus documenting the path to the reunification of Germany.
