Food Forum USA and Canada, Hannover

Sept 17: IHK Hannover Canada is organizing the Food Forum USA and Canada in partnership with the US- and Canadian German Chamber. The purpose of the forum is to provide German agricultural and food producers and distributors with a platform for information and exchange on the North American market.

10th IHK-Außenwirtschaftstag NRW, Aachen

Sept 20: North Rhine-Westphalia is hosting its largest forum for foreign trade for the tenth time. Over 1000 visitors, 60 chambers of foreign trade and high-profile speakers will get together for a varied program at the  Eurogress Conference Centre to discuss and share perspectives and trends in world trade.

Canadian German Conference on eHealth Solutions, Toronto

Jun 6: CGCIC organized a Canadian German Conference on eHealth Solutions. During this one day event speakers from both countries presented current developments in the digital health sector. Attendees of the conference had the opportunity to exchange their views on the presented topics and to initiate a Canadian-German dialogue.

German Business Delegation: IoT, Smart Manufacturing and Automatization, Toronto & Montreal

Jun 17-21: In collaboration with the State Development Corporation of Thuringia, CGCIC set up a business delegation visit for companies from the Federal State of Thuringia. The delegation visited local businesses and research institutions in the field of IoT, Smart Manufacturing and the Automatization Industry. The program also included two workshops on the topic of “Future of Smart Manufacturing”.

Artificial Intelligence Delegation, Frankfurt, Kaiserslautern, Karlsruhe & Tübingen

Jun 18-22: CGCIC organized a delegation with experts in Artificial Intelligence from Canada to Germany as a part of the Transatlantic Dialogue Initiative. In addition to the program, the chamber also organized its third Transatlantic Dialogue Conference at the Schlosshotel in Karlsruhe.

New Board Member at the Canadian German Chamber, Toronto

Jun 14: We would like to welcome Alok Kanti, President & CEO, Bayer Inc., as a new Board Member of the CGCIC. Mr. Kanti has been the President & CEO of Bayer Inc. since August 2017 and is responsible for the direct management of the Canadian HealthCare Pharmaceuticals business and  oversight of all Bayer businesses in Canada.
We would also like to wish our outgoing Board members Aron Gampel and Dr. Ulrich Lamp all the best for their future endeavors and thank them for their support.

CETA Discussion Panel, Stuttgart

Jun 20: IHK Stuttgart hosted  a Canada Round Table event at the Global Connect 2018 to discuss the effects of the NAFTA negotiations  on the trade agreement CETA and the German export industry. The Panel was moderated by Thomas Beck, President & CEO of the Canadian German Chamber. Panel speakers were Klemens Kober, Director Trade Policy and EU Customs, Gosia Binczyk, Trade Officer of the European Comission in Germany and Andrew Haswell, Consul and Senior Trade Advisor of the Canadian Consulate in Munich.

Jun 2018: Thomas Beck, President & CEO of the Canadian German Chamber outlines the  advantages of the Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) on the Canadian German trade relation at this year’s Europe Day Celebration held by the European Union Chamber of Commerce in Canada (EUCCAN).

DKG Award of Honour for Robert Hardt, Cologne

Jun 30:
The Deutsch-Kanadische Gesellschaft  awarded the DKG Award of Honour for 2018 to Robert Hardt, former President & CEO of Siemens Canada and current Partner of Catalyst Next 47. The prize was ceremonially handed over to Hardt as part of the festivities for Canada Day at the tradition-rich „Senftöpfchen“ Theater.

Kuehne + Nagel Group  half-year results 2018

July 19: In the first six months of this year, the Kuehne + Nagel Group recorded strong volume growth and a significant increase in EBIT. The EBIT-to-gross-profit ratio (conversion rate) was maintained at a high level.

Canada and USA escalate trade dispute

The current uncertainty surrounding the shape of North American domestic trade is weakening Canadian investment. Recently imposed US tariffs on steel and aluminum are to obtain trade-offs from Canada in the negotiations for a new edition of NAFTA. The US government is fighting hard for an American-style free trade agreement and is willing to alienate its long-time partner Canada. The Canadians sit on the shorter lever.

Canada legalizes cannabis use

After the prescription requirement comes the free sale. With the legalization of cannabis, the number of potential cannabis users in Canada will skyrocket from October onwards. Around the production and sales arise new fields of business for the traditional trades, like horticulture, lighting, security, etc. Investments in the cannabis industry are currently enormous, the demand and incomes are still open.
